Session 1: An Introduction to Finding Health Information on the Internet
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session you will be able to:
- Access NHS Resources via Athens
- Define different resources available via Health Information Resources
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of each resource
- Analyse resources to select most appropriate resources
Session Information
This session is intended to be either a traditional presentation or an interactive, user-led facilitated group session. It can also be used within a 1-1 session.
The facilitated group session is an hour long session.
It can be used as a standalone session or as the 1st Part to a larger information skills session – compromising of Literature Searching Skills as Part 2.
Session 2: Literature Searching
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Realize the importance of literature searching
- Recognise the appropriate resources required to search
- Identify main databases suitable for each given search
- Correctly identify and distinguish between search terms, search fields and limits
- Demonstrate ability to combine search terms to complete a search
- Generate a report of search results in an appropriate format suitable for sharing and saving

This session is intended to be either a self-taught individual session or an interactive, user-led facilitated group session. It can also be used within a 1-1 session.
The facilitated group session is an hour long session.
It can be used as a standalone session or as the 2nd part to a larger information skills session – compromising of Information Skills as part 1
